Windows 7 consumes memory and processor in an “alarming”

February 20th, 2010 — 12:09pm

According to data compiled by the collaborative site XPnet at 23,000 computers, 86% of machines with Windows 7 functioned normally consume over 90% of installed RAM. Also the processor usage was much higher than other systems such as Windows XP. Windows 7 is a resource guzzler or an excellent manager of the same?

The analyst Craig Barth explained that according to data from the INMESA XPnet most computers with Windows 7 worked near the saturation point of forcing the RAM to throw virtual memory.

Barth called the consumption of resources as “alarming” but said he could not determine whether that use memory (between 90 and 95% in Windows 7 compared to 50% on Windows XP) was specific operating system or more open applications.

The analyst explained that the consumption was even more remarkable considering that the mean of RAM installed on computers with Windows 7 was twice that in Windows XP (3.3 vs. 1.7 GB).

Also, the burden of the microprocessor in Windows 7 is far superior to Windows XP, and here the average power of the former far exceeds that of XP. Is it a real glutton Windows 7? Get more / better resources available?

YouTube delegates the power to filter content to users

February 12th, 2010 — 11:03pm

It is a nice feature that has just joined the site for sharing videosYouTube.

Blocking content deemed “unacceptable” will now be delegated to users ….

In a blog contribution, Jamie Davidson, in charge of products at YouTube, said that some users wanted more control over what they are viewing.

“We have implemented the Safety Mode (safe mode), an optional setting that helps to filter the content that you prefer not to look or you do not want certain members of your family watch” says Jamie Davidson.

In practice, if the “Safety Mode” is enabled, users should ensure that research on certain keywords HAPPENS actually on video.

A good place for parents who wish to leave their young children watch cartoons in peace.

Note however that the general conditions of use of YouTube already prohibit any publication of pornographic, erotic or violent.
